Last year we had a raptor take up residence near our house. I've spotted this one a couple times sitting on my back porch railing. This picture was taken from my backyard with the bird in a tree a mere 15 feet from my porch last week.
If I can find it, my husband has a picture taken last October right after it brought down a pigeon...
I'm not 100% positive on the species, but judging by the size, color, and chest patterns our best call is this is a Merlin Falcon.
